Prologue RW

Within the endless darkness, in a place outside of space and time, an entity made of pure light was observing the stream of souls belonging to the universe it had reign over. The entity was bored out of its mind, due to the monotony of its existence, which consisted in giving a fate to all beings born in its universe, the cleansing of the souls of the dead prior to their reincarnation, and ensuring no soul escaped the reincarnation cycle.

To kill its boredom, the entity had acquired a habit, from time to time it would take out a soul from the stream, allow it to recover its former self and talk with it for a while, before erasing its consciousness and putting it back into the stream of souls. The entity was about to take a soul from the stream, when it noticed that something it had never experienced before was happening at that moment.

Oh? This is new! It looks like someone is trying to interfere with my universe, thought the entity. In normal circumstances, the laws of the multiverse make interference between parallel universes impossible. However, it is different if the ruler of fate of a universe decides to allow the interference instead of blocking it.

The entity considered it for a while, but in the end it decided not to block the external interference, I wonder if this interference could show me something interesting… I won’t block it! Contrary to its expectations, after waiting for a while the entity discovered that nothing had changed in spite of allowing the interference, so it quickly forgot about it and went back to watch the stream of souls.

Some time later, it saw two souls had strayed from the stream. The entity went to catch them and return them to the stream of souls. It noticed that one of the stray souls was slightly bigger than usual, but it didn’t give it much thought and put both souls back into the stream. Had it inspected that one soul more thoroughly, the entity would have realized it was an anomalous soul, which had to be reincarnated without going through the stream of souls, and without being bestowed a new fate by the entity upon its rebirth.

The entity would never fathom how that simple action, which it had already done innumerable times before, would, in the future, thwart the plans someone else had been preparing for several millennia. Nor could it imagine how the mere existence of that soul within the stream would, after its rebirth, change the fates of those around it…
